PMD predicts rain in multiple Punjab districts on May 12, 2025

Islamabad, May 11, 2025 – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a fresh weather advisory predicting rain for various districts across Punjab on Monday, May 12, 2025.

According to the PMD, while most areas of Punjab are expected to remain hot and dry, several regions may experience isolated showers accompanied by thunder and dust storms.

In its detailed forecast, the PMD stated that partly cloudy weather with chances of dust/thunderstorm-rain is likely to develop in districts including Murree, Galiyat, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Narowal, Faisalabad, Sargodha, Khushab, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Hafizabad, Mianwali, Bhakkar, Layyah, Sahiwal, Multan, and Dera Ghazi Khan. There is also a possibility of heavy rainfall and hailstorms at isolated spots, which could impact visibility and disrupt daily life in parts of Punjab.

The PMD had also forecasted rain for Sunday evening (May 11), predicting rain-wind/thunderstorm in similar regions of Punjab such as Murree, Galliyat, Rawalpindi, Jhelum, Gujranwala, and Lahore, along with southern districts like Bahawalnagar, Bahawalpur, and Rahim Yar Khan. These areas may continue to receive intermittent rainfall into Monday.

At the national level, the PMD has warned of potential hazards from windstorms, thunderstorms, hailstorms, and lightning from Sunday night through May 12. These weather events may pose a risk to loose structures including electric poles, trees, solar panels, and vehicles.

The synoptic situation described by the PMD indicates that a shallow westerly wave is influencing weather patterns across the northern and central parts of the country. Additionally, moisture-laden winds from the Arabian Sea are expected to penetrate into the upper and central parts of Pakistan, especially Punjab, enhancing the likelihood of rain.

For Monday, May 12, hot and dry conditions will prevail in most parts of the country. However, the PMD reiterates that isolated rain with thunder and dust storms is likely in Upper and Central Punjab, Islamabad, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Moderate to heavy rain with chances of hail is also expected in some parts.

Over the past 24 hours, the weather remained generally dry and hot across the country, with isolated rain observed in Upper Punjab and other northern regions. Notable rainfall in Punjab was recorded in Joharabad (8 mm), Sargodha (2 mm), and Murree (1 mm).
