Rain, thunderstorms and isolated heavy falls are expected across northern and upper parts of the country, with urban and flash flooding risks in several areas.
ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast rain, wind and thunderstorms across several parts of Pakistan on Saturday, September 5, 2026, while hot and humid weather is expected to persist in southern areas.
According to the PMD, rain, wind and thundershowers are expected in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, upper Punjab, Islamabad, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir. Isolated heavy rainfall is also likely in upper districts during the forecast period.
The weather department said strong moist currents were penetrating the upper parts of the country, while a strong westerly wave was also present over parts of Pakistan.
Urban flooding risk
The PMD has warned that heavy to very heavy rainfall from the night of September 4 to September 5 could cause urban flooding in low-lying areas of Islamabad and Rawalpindi, Mardan, Swabi, Peshawar, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Lahore and Sialkot.
Heavy rainfall may also trigger flash flooding in local streams and nullahs in Kashmir, Murree, Galiyat, Islamabad and Rawalpindi, as well as the Pothohar region.
The department further warned of possible landslides in hilly areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Murree, Galiyat and Kashmir.
Residents in vulnerable areas have been advised to remain alert as heavy rainfall could disrupt normal activities and create hazardous conditions.
Rainfall recorded across northern areas
During the past 24 hours, rain, wind and thundershowers were recorded at isolated places in Islamabad, north-east Punjab, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
In Punjab, Murree received 42mm of rain, while Islamabad’s Saidpur Village recorded 28mm and Golra 14mm.
Rawalpindi recorded 8mm at Shamsabad and 1mm at New Kattarian, while Lahore City received 6mm.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Parachinar received 37mm, followed by Malam Jabba with 35mm, Saidu Sharif 26mm and Balakot 21mm.
In Kashmir, Garhi Dopatta received 25mm, while Muzaffarabad recorded 23mm at the airport and 11mm in the city.
Gilgit-Baltistan recorded 3mm at Astore, while Bunji and Gilgit received 1mm each.
Hot and humid weather continues in south
The PMD said hot and humid weather prevailed in the southern parts of the country and is expected to continue.
The highest maximum temperature recorded on the previous day was 44°C in Nokkundi, while Bhakkar and Dalbandin recorded 43°C each.
The PMD had also forecast rain, wind and thundershowers in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, upper and central Punjab, Islamabad, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir on Friday, with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall expected during the period.
