PMD predicts very hot weather in southern Pakistan, rain expected in north

Islamabad, April 29, 2026 — The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast very hot weather conditions in southern parts of the country on Thursday, April 30, as continental air continues to dominate most regions.

According to the latest PMD weather report, mainly hot and dry conditions are expected across the country, with temperatures likely to rise significantly in southern areas. However, isolated rain-wind and thunderstorm activity is anticipated in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit Baltistan, Kashmir, and surrounding areas.

Weather Outlook for April 30

The PMD stated that the prevailing weather pattern is largely influenced by continental air over most parts of Pakistan. Additionally, a shallow westerly trough is affecting northern areas, contributing to chances of light rain and thunderstorms in select regions.

Conditions on Wednesday

On Wednesday, similar weather conditions were observed, with hot and dry weather dominating most regions, particularly in southern parts. Meanwhile, isolated rain-wind/thunderstorms were reported in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, northeast Punjab, Gilgit Baltistan, and Kashmir.

Past 24 Hours Weather Summary

During the last 24 hours, rain-windstorms and thunderstorms occurred at scattered locations in Punjab and upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, while isolated rainfall was recorded in Gilgit Baltistan and Kashmir. Other parts of the country experienced predominantly hot and dry weather.

Notable rainfall (mm) included Mandi Bahauddin and Noor Pur Thal (19mm), Chakwal (18mm), Joharabad (15mm), and Sargodha (14mm), among others. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Cherat recorded 18mm, while Kalam received 11mm of rainfall.

Highest Temperatures Recorded

The highest temperatures recorded on Wednesday were in Turbat and Mohenjo Daro at 44°C, followed by Larkana at 43°C, reflecting intensifying heat across southern regions.

The PMD has advised the public to take necessary precautions, particularly in southern areas where extreme heat conditions are expected to persist.
