Karachi, September 26, 2024 – The Port Qasim Authority (PQA) released its shipping activity report for Thursday, September 26, 2024, providing key updates on vessel movements and cargo handling operations at the port. The report highlights significant shipping activity aimed at facilitating stakeholders in the maritime and trade sectors.
According to the report, four ships — SSL Brahmaputra, Maersk Cape Town, Forza Roma, and Hafnia Express — berthed at Port Qasim on Wednesday. These vessels were scheduled to load and offload various types of cargo, including containers, rice, and gas oil, at the Qasim International Container Terminal, Grain Terminal, and FOTCO Oil Terminal, respectively.
In addition to the ships that have already berthed, five more vessels — Phoenicianm, Ashico Victoria, Cape Andreas, Solar Roma, and Papino — arrived at the outer anchorage of the port during the last 24 hours. These vessels are expected to load and offload a mix of cargo, including rice, containers, and steel coils.
During the past 24 hours, a total of ten ships were actively engaged at various Port Qasim berths, underscoring the high level of activity at one of Pakistan’s busiest maritime hubs. Of these, five ships — Maersk Cape Town, SSL Brahmaputra, North Berwick, Bentley-I, and Al-Deebal — completed their operations and departed the port early Thursday morning. Two additional ships, Scarabe and Cape Andreas, are expected to sail later in the afternoon.
The port handled a total cargo volume of 97,522 tonnes during this period, comprising 77,632 tonnes of import cargo and 19,890 tonnes of export cargo. In terms of containers, 1,866 Twenty-Foot Equivalent Units (TEUs) were processed, with 845 TEUs of import cargo and 1,021 TEUs of export cargo.
As of Thursday, eight ships are currently anchored at Port Qasim’s outer anchorage, waiting for berthing instructions. Among these, three vessels — Oslo Eagle, Solar Roma, and Cape Andreas — are expected to dock later today, carrying coal, palm oil, and containers, respectively. Three more vessels — Teno, San Francisco Bridge, and Maya Gas — are set to offload additional cargo including LPG at MW-4, LCT, QICT, and EVTL terminals.
Looking ahead, the report also notes the scheduled arrival of three container ships — MSC Positano, MSC Tavvishi, and X-Press Anglesey — at the port on Friday, further contributing to the busy shipping operations at Port Qasim.
