Port Qasim Releases Shipping Activity Report for March 11, 2024

Karachi, March 11, 2024 – The Port Qasim Authority (PQA) has recently published its shipping activity report, offering valuable insights into the bustling maritime operations in Karachi.

Seven ships, including Eagle, Crested Eagle, Yongheng Ocean, Madison Eagle, Ullswater, Houyoushi Park, and CMA CGM Nabucco, were scheduled for loading and offloading operations at various terminals on Sunday, showcasing the port’s versatility in handling a diverse range of cargo.

The Multi-Purpose Terminal, Liquid Terminal, HF Terminal, Engro Terminal, and Container Terminal were abuzz with activity as these ships facilitated the transfer of Rice, Steel coil, Palm oil, LPG, Chemicals, and Containers. Additionally, the arrival of the ‘Menomonee,’ carrying Coal, at the outer anchorage on Monday morning further underscored the port’s capacity to manage a variety of goods.

Within the last 24 hours, nine ships were actively engaged at PQA berths. Four ships, including Houyoushi Park, CMA CGM Nabucco, Cetus, and Al-Bida, left the port in the morning, while two more vessels, Ullswater and Crested Eagle, are expected to set sail in the afternoon. The port’s strategic location and efficient operations continue to attract a significant number of ships, making it a crucial hub for maritime trade.

The cargo volume handled at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours reached an impressive 72,827 tonnes. This figure includes 97,827 tonnes of imported cargo and 25,058 tonnes of export cargo. The handling of containerized cargo played a substantial role in this activity, with 2,200 containers (1,244 TEUs imports and 956 TEUs exports) being processed.

Currently, eight ships are positioned at the Outer Anchorage of Port Qasim. Among them, four ships, Melody, Fame, Menomonee, and Kiso, are awaiting berths, while the MSC Beira IV is scheduled to load/offload Rice, Soya bean seeds, Coal, Chemicals, and Containers at MW-1, FAP, PIBT, EVTL, and QICT on Monday.

The report highlights Port Qasim’s pivotal role as a major gateway for trade in the region.
