Veteran star Cristiano Ronaldo shines with a brace as Portugal dominate Uzbekistan ahead of clash with Colombia.

Portugal produced a commanding display to register a comprehensive 5-0 victory over Uzbekistan in their FIFA World Cup group-stage encounter, with veteran forward Cristiano Ronaldo scoring twice to lead his side to another impressive win.

The Portuguese side took control of the match from the opening minutes and never allowed their opponents to settle. Cristiano Ronaldo, despite being 41 years old, opened the scoring in the sixth minute with a clinical finish that put Portugal ahead early in the contest.

Portugal doubled their advantage in the 17th minute when defender Nuno Mendes converted a free kick to make it 2-0. Uzbekistan attempted to respond and even found the net in the 29th minute with a long-range effort, but the goal was ruled out after the referee detected a foul during the buildup.

Ronaldo struck again six minutes before halftime to further strengthen Portugal’s grip on the match. His second goal of the evening extended the lead to 3-0 and effectively put the game beyond Uzbekistan’s reach before the interval.

The European side continued to dominate in the second half. In the 60th minute, Uzbekistan’s misery deepened when one of their defenders accidentally turned the ball into his own net, handing Portugal a fourth goal.

Portugal completed the rout in the closing stages when Rafael Leao produced an excellent finish in the 87th minute to seal a convincing 5-0 triumph.

The emphatic victory strengthens Portugal’s position in the group and boosts their confidence heading into their third group-stage fixture. Portugal are now set to face Colombia on June 27, with Ronaldo and his teammates aiming to maintain their winning momentum and secure qualification for the knockout rounds.
