Power DISCOs launch new easy electricity bill format

Power distribution companies roll out simplified billing system with clearer layout, QR codes, and improved transparency for consumers nationwide.

Electricity consumers across Pakistan are set to see a major change in how their monthly bills look, as Distribution Companies (DISCOs) have rolled out a redesigned electricity bill format under the Ministry of Energy’s Power Division reform agenda—aimed at making billing simpler, clearer, and more consumer-friendly.

The move marks one of the most visible overhauls in recent years in the country’s power sector communication system, with officials claiming the new format is designed to eliminate confusion and improve transparency for millions of households.

According to the Ministry of Energy (Power Division), the redesigned bill focuses on simplicity, readability, and structured presentation, allowing consumers to quickly understand key details such as electricity consumption, charges, due dates, and payment obligations without navigating complex breakdowns.

The previous bill format had long been criticized by consumers for being overcrowded and difficult to interpret, with excessive technical data, repeated information, and cluttered layouts often making it hard for users to identify basic billing figures. Authorities say the redesign directly responds to years of public complaints and stakeholder feedback.

Officials stated that the overhaul is part of a broader push toward consumer-centric governance and digital transformation in the power sector. The new bill layout highlights essential information more prominently, reduces visual complexity, and organizes billing components in a more logical structure.

One of the key features of the revamped system is the introduction of QR codes, enabling consumers to instantly access additional billing details, digital services, and online support options through smartphones.

The rollout has already begun in major electricity companies. Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO), Gujranwala Electric Power Company (GEPCO), and Multan Electric Power Company (MEPCO) have started issuing bills in the new format, while Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO) is expected to switch from Monday.

Other DISCOs are still in the procurement phase and will adopt the new format gradually once implementation processes are completed.

The Ministry of Energy (Power Division) praised consumer feedback for driving the reform, stating that the redesign reflects its commitment to transparency, efficiency, and improved service delivery across Pakistan’s power distribution network.

Energy officials believe the simplified bill format will not only reduce consumer confusion but also improve payment compliance and strengthen trust between electricity providers and the public—at a time when the sector continues to grapple with high costs and operational challenges.
