Karachi, October 14, 2024 – Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) has successfully commenced oil and gas production from its new development well, Adhi South-9, located within the Adhi Mining Lease. This marks a significant step in the company’s ongoing efforts to boost the country’s domestic oil and gas output.
In an official communication shared with the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) on Monday, PPL announced that Adhi South-9, a development well, has started producing 530 barrels per day (bpd) of oil and 0.6 million standard cubic feet per day (MMscfd) of gas. The well was drilled to a depth of 3,430 meters and, after promising results from logging tests, was completed and tied into the existing plant for production.
PPL operates the Adhi Mining Lease with a 39% working interest, while its joint venture partners, Oil & Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) and Pakistan Oilfields Limited (POL), hold working interests of 50% and 11%, respectively.
The production from Adhi South-9 is part of PPL’s broader strategy to enhance its contribution to Pakistan’s energy sector by increasing domestic production of oil and gas. The successful drilling and completion of the well are expected to positively impact the company’s production capacity and contribute to addressing the country’s energy needs.
Adhi South-9 is located in the Potohar region, an area known for its oil and gas reserves. The Adhi field has been a key asset for PPL and its partners, consistently delivering valuable energy resources to Pakistan’s growing industrial and consumer markets. The addition of this new well to the company’s portfolio will help to sustain and potentially increase overall production from the field.
The company’s management expressed optimism about the results from Adhi South-9, citing the encouraging log data and successful integration into the production network. This achievement is part of PPL’s ongoing efforts to explore and develop new resources in Pakistan to meet the country’s rising demand for energy.
Industry analysts have noted that this development comes at a crucial time as Pakistan continues to grapple with energy shortages and rising demand for both oil and gas. The successful production from Adhi South-9 is expected to provide some relief to the country’s energy sector and reduce its reliance on costly energy imports.
As PPL continues to explore new wells and optimize its existing fields, the company remains committed to playing a pivotal role in securing Pakistan’s energy future.
