PPL Discloses Successful Outcome of Rigless Production Enhancement Campaign

Karachi, October 6, 2023 – Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL), a major player in Pakistan’s energy sector, has unveiled the results of its rigless production enhancement campaign, reaffirming its commitment to bolster the country’s energy security by optimizing domestic hydrocarbon production.

The campaign, conducted from June to September 2023, yielded significant gains in gas and condensate production, further solidifying PPL’s role as a key contributor to Pakistan’s energy outlook.

In a communication sent to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), PPL emphasized its dedication to harnessing all available resources to maximize domestic hydrocarbon production, particularly in light of many of its producing fields maturing and experiencing natural declines. The company utilized state-of-the-art techniques to identify and exploit production enhancement opportunities from existing resources without incurring additional expenditures or production losses.

The key achievements and milestones of PPL’s rigless production enhancement campaign include:

Additional Perforations: PPL added approximately 6 million standard cubic feet per day (MMscfd) of gas and 90 barrels per day (BPD) of condensate production in Sui and Gambat South fields. This boost was achieved through additional perforations in six wells, namely Sui-7, Sui-96, Sui-36, Sui-104, Sharf-3 (Gambat South), and doubling the production in Kabir X-1 (Gambat South) by adding perforations in less depleted zones.

Acid Stimulation: The company successfully increased gas production by approximately 5 MMscfd in the Sui Field. This was accomplished by removing near-wellbore damage in four wells: Sui-115, Sui-67, Sui-93, and Sui-100.

Surface De-Bottlenecking: PPL optimized wellhead surface fittings and implemented a chemical inhibition strategy, resulting in an enhanced gas production of approximately 2 MMscfd from Sui-108 (Sui Field).

Scale Clean Out: In the Hala block, the Fazl X-1 well had experienced a sharp production decline and ceased to flow due to suspected scale deposition in the wellbore. However, timely diagnosis and remedial actions were taken, reviving the well to its optimum potential of 7.5 MMscfd gas and 10 BPD condensate production.

These achievements have led to a substantial increase in hydrocarbon production, with approximately 13 MMscfd of gas and 90 BPD of condensate being added to the company’s portfolio. This boost in indigenous hydrocarbon production is expected to contribute significantly to bridging the energy demand and supply gap in Pakistan, while also saving valuable foreign exchange.

Looking ahead, Pakistan Petroleum Limited remains committed to exploring further production enhancement opportunities through rigless techniques and short rig workovers. These efforts align with the company’s mission to secure Pakistan’s energy future and strengthen the nation’s energy outlook.
