Prime Minister orders reference withdrawal against Justice Faez Isa

On Thursday, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif ordered the withdrawal of a curative reference filed against Justice Qazi Faez Isa.

Justice Isa is the most senior judge in the country’s Supreme Court.

The Prime Minister deemed the reference baseless and politically motivated and instructed the Law Minister to withdraw it.

The federal cabinet had already approved the withdrawal in a meeting chaired by the Prime Minister.

The Prime Minister expressed that the reference was a conspiracy to undermine the judiciary’s independence and create division, rather than an objective inquiry.

He also claimed that Imran Niazi, the former Prime Minister, sought revenge by attacking an impartial person who upheld the law and constitution.

Additionally, the Prime Minister remarked that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz and other coalition parties had previously opposed the reference while in opposition.

He accused Imran Niazi of making the President of Pakistan abuse his power and become an accomplice in an attack on the judiciary.

The Prime Minister acknowledged that lawyers’ organizations, including the Pakistan Bar Council, had also opposed the reference, and the government appreciated their input.
