Prime Minister Sharif urges exporters to innovate for increased exports

Karachi, May 26, 2023 – Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif called upon the country’s exporters to adopt innovative and unique approaches to enhance exports, leading to valuable foreign exchange earnings for Pakistan.

Addressing a ceremony at the Textile Expo, the Prime Minister acknowledged the challenges faced by exporters but emphasized the presence of robust and forward-thinking entrepreneurs who have fostered Pakistan’s export culture over time.

He expressed confidence that with genuine government support and the exceptional intellect and hard work of entrepreneurs, the provision of high-quality export goods to foreign customers would be ensured.

The Prime Minister extended a warm welcome to the foreign delegates attending the event, noting that the participation of over 400 delegates from 60 countries highlighted Pakistan’s significance as an attractive destination for foreign guests, buyers, and traders.

Shehbaz Sharif commended the industrialists, exporters, and experts who have played a significant role in promoting Pakistan’s textile and leather exports. He highlighted the transformation of Pakistan’s industry, with advancements in air jet looms, ginning, spinning, and waving techniques.

The Prime Minister praised the Commerce Minister, Secretary Commerce, and Zubair Motiwala for their commendable efforts in organizing the expo, which aims to boost the country’s exports.

Emphasizing the importance of the textile sector, the Prime Minister stated that it accounts for 60% of total exports and employs 40% of the labor force, making it one of Pakistan’s largest economic sectors.

Despite financial challenges and other difficulties, the government remains committed to providing genuine support to all export sectors, including textile, leather, and sports, to facilitate an increase in the country’s export volume.

Reflecting on Pakistan’s past achievements in textile exports, the Prime Minister expressed optimism that the nation could recover from setbacks and regain its former position, citing the combined efforts of Naveed Qamar, his team, and the finance minister as pivotal in achieving this goal.

Shehbaz Sharif acknowledged the establishment of the national compliance cell by Naveed Qamar, which addresses current requirements and international standards, particularly those related to good governance and human rights, respecting the conditions set by the European Union for the GSP Plus status.

Reaffirming the government’s commitment to the rule of law and merit, the Prime Minister assured that constitutional obligations and policies would be strictly followed.

Commerce Minister Syed Naveed Qamar highlighted the investment opportunities available in Pakistan for foreign investors. He emphasized the necessity of providing additional incentives to exporters to boost the country’s exports. The Minister assured entrepreneurs of the government’s full support, promising a conducive environment that would help Pakistan strengthen its foreign exchange reserves and reduce reliance on international lenders.

Chairman of the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP), Zubair Motiwala, emphasized Pakistan’s reputation for delivering standard textile products worldwide.

The Textile Expo serves as a platform to inspire exporters, promote innovation, and showcase Pakistan’s potential to excel in international markets, ultimately contributing to the country’s economic growth.
