Islamabad, March 5, 2024 – The Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium witnessed an absolute thriller on Tuesday as Peshawar Zalmi emerged victorious in a nail-biting finish against Multan Sultans in the 21st match of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) Season 9.
Having won the toss, Peshawar Zalmi elected to bat first, setting the stage for an exhilarating encounter. The Zalmi batsmen displayed remarkable prowess, posting an imposing total of 204 runs for the loss of five wickets in their allotted 20 overs.
Babar Azam, leading from the front, played a captain’s inning, contributing a formidable 64 runs off just 40 balls. The Peshawar Zalmi innings also saw notable performances from Saim Ayub, who scored 46 runs, and Hassebullah Khan, adding 31 runs to the total.
In response, Multan Sultans, in their pursuit of 205 runs, showcased resilience and determination, reaching a commendable 200 runs for the loss of five wickets in their 20 overs. Iftikhar Ahmed played a scintillating and unbeaten knock of 60 runs in just 27 balls, steering the Sultans’ chase. Skipper Mohammad Rizwan contributed with 32 runs in 24 balls, while Chris Jordan played an unbeaten inning of 30 runs in 12 balls.
The bowling effort from both teams added an extra layer of excitement to the match. Usama Mir stood out for Multan Sultans, claiming three crucial wickets for 32 runs in his four overs. Chris Jordan also made an impact with the ball, securing two wickets for 33 runs in his quota of four overs.
In the second innings, Amir Jamal turned the tide in favor of Peshawar Zalmi, taking two key wickets for 36 runs in his four overs. Mehran Mumtaz and Naveen-ul-Haq contributed to the cause by taking one wicket each.
The Player of the Match award was rightfully bestowed upon Babar Azam of Peshawar Zalmi for his outstanding contribution with the bat, amassing 64 runs in just 40 balls.
