PTA Blocks Websites Selling Unauthorized Medicines On DRAP Request

Pakistan Telecom Authority

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has taken action against websites and social media pages involved in the online sale of unauthorized and unregistered therapeutic goods. The move came after a formal request from the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP), which raised concerns about the growing misuse of digital platforms for illegal pharmaceutical sales.

According to an official statement, PTA promptly initiated enforcement measures after receiving the request. The regulator reviewed the reported online content and moved quickly to restrict access to websites that were allegedly offering unregistered or unauthorized therapeutic products to consumers.

As part of the action, PTA blocked access to several identified websites operating in violation of national regulations. The authority confirmed that the websites involved have acknowledged the violation and removed the illegal products listed on their platforms.

In addition to websites, authorities are also targeting illegal sales activities taking place on social media. PTA stated that the matter has been formally taken up with various social media platforms to ensure the early removal of reported pages and groups engaged in the promotion and sale of such products.

The crackdown is part of broader regulatory efforts to curb the illegal online trade of medicines and protect consumers from potentially harmful or unverified treatments. Health authorities have long warned that unregistered therapeutic goods may pose serious risks to public health, especially when sold without proper oversight or quality checks.

Officials emphasized that digital platforms must not be used for the sale of unapproved medicines or medical products. The authorities also urged the public to remain cautious when purchasing health-related items online and to verify that products are properly registered with relevant regulatory bodies.

PTA reiterated its commitment to supporting national regulatory institutions in ensuring public safety. The telecom regulator stated it will continue to monitor online platforms and take timely action against violations in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.

The ongoing collaboration between PTA and DRAP reflects the government’s broader strategy to safeguard public health and prevent the misuse of digital platforms for unlawful commercial activities.
