PTA, DeafTawk Join Hands to Boost Accessibility for Deaf

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has signed a groundbreaking Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with DeafTawk to improve accessibility for individuals with hearing impairments in public services.

The signing ceremony, held at Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) Headquarters, signifies a milestone toward creating an inclusive environment within the public sector.

Under this partnership, DeafTawk will offer its innovative service, “DeafTawk Plus,” which enables online sign language interpretation for deaf visitors at PTA offices.

Additionally, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) plans to integrate AI-powered text-to-sign and speech-to-sign tools across its digital platforms. These efforts will be complemented by annual accessibility audits to ensure ongoing enhancements.

During the ceremony, PTA Chairman Maj. Gen. (R) Hafeezur Rehman emphasized the initiative’s significance. He stated, “Accessibility is a fundamental right. This partnership bridges the digital divide and empowers marginalized communities.” His remarks underline the importance of addressing the unique challenges faced by individuals with hearing impairments.

Ali Shabbar, CEO of DeafTawk, and Risham Raja, Country Head, lauded PTA’s proactive leadership in promoting inclusivity. They expressed optimism about the positive impact this collaboration will have on the lives of over 10 million deaf individuals in Pakistan.

This initiative is a timely response to the communication barriers faced by the deaf community, paving the way for equitable access to public services. By leveraging advanced technologies and fostering partnerships, PTA is setting a precedent for other organizations to prioritize accessibility and inclusivity.

The MoU marks a crucial step toward fostering an equitable society, ensuring that individuals with support needs can participate fully in public and digital spaces.

As PTA and DeafTawk work together to implement these solutions, they are not only advancing accessibility but also empowering individuals to overcome societal barriers and thrive in a connected world.

This collaboration between PTA and DeafTawk sets a benchmark for inclusivity, leveraging technology to empower the deaf community and foster an equitable society. By addressing accessibility challenges, it paves the way for greater integration and participation of individuals with hearing impairments in public and digital spaces, ensuring no one is left behind in the digital age.
