PTA, FIA Crack Down on Illegal SIM Sales in Sukkur, Faisalabad

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), in collaboration with the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Cyber Crime Wing, has intensified its crackdown on the illegal issuance and sale of pre-activated international and local SIM cards.

Recent raids in Sukkur and Faisalabad resulted in multiple arrests and the confiscation of unauthorized SIMs.

In Sukkur, PTA’s Zonal Office, in coordination with the FIA, conducted a targeted raid at a shop near Clock Tower.

Law enforcement authorities seized two international SIM cards and five pre-activated Jazz SIMs. The shop owner was taken into custody, and an FIR has been registered against him for violating telecommunication regulations.

Meanwhile, in Faisalabad, simultaneous raids were carried out at three different locations, leading to the arrest of two individuals involved in the illicit sale of international SIM cards. Authorities seized a significant number of illegally issued SIMs. Legal proceedings are underway, with FIRs being processed against the accused individuals.

The PTA has reiterated its commitment to combating illegal SIM sales, emphasizing the importance of maintaining a secure and lawful digital environment. The illegal issuance of SIMs poses a significant threat to national security, as such practices can facilitate criminal activities, including fraud and cybercrime.

These enforcement actions highlight the PTA’s dedication to eradicating unauthorized SIM sales and ensuring compliance with telecom regulations. The authority has urged the public to report any suspicious SIM-related activities to help curb this illegal practice.

The FIA has also warned that individuals found engaging in the sale or distribution of unauthorized SIM cards will face strict legal action. Further investigations are ongoing to dismantle networks involved in this illicit trade.

Authorities have assured that such raids will continue across the country to prevent the misuse of illegally activated SIMs. The PTA remains steadfast in its efforts to enhance cybersecurity and protect consumers from telecom fraud.

For reporting illegal SIM sales, citizens are encouraged to contact PTA’s helpline or report through the official website. The crackdown serves as a strong message against those violating telecom regulations, reinforcing the government’s zero-tolerance policy on digital security breaches.
