Islamabad, November 13, 2024 – In a significant move to curb illegal activities associated with unregistered SIM cards, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has launched a targeted raid on a Jazz franchisee accused of illegally issuing SIMs.
The operation, conducted in collaboration with the Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) Cyber Crime Circle Sukkur, took place at a Jazz outlet in Mehrabpur, Noshahro Feroz, marking a robust stance against the unauthorized distribution of SIM cards in Pakistan.
The PTA Zonal Office Sukkur, in a press statement dated November 12, 2024, confirmed that 11 active SIM cards were seized during the operation, effectively interrupting a suspected conduit for illegal SIM issuance. These unauthorized SIMs are frequently linked to criminal enterprises, including fraud, identity theft, and other illegal undertakings that exploit digital networks to victimize unsuspecting individuals.
An official FIR has been filed against the franchisee’s owner, who has been implicated in the case as authorities intensify efforts to hold those involved accountable. The PTA emphasized that this action is part of a broader, ongoing strategy to dismantle networks involved in the illegal distribution of SIM cards across the country.
To bolster its capacity to detect and prevent such activities, PTA has implemented an advanced monitoring and detection system.
