PTBA suggests return filing date extension up to December 31

LAHORE: Pakistan Tax Bar Association (PTBA) has advised the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to further extend the last date for filing income tax returns up to December 31, 2019.

The PTBA wrote a letter to FBR chairman on Friday and advised to extend the last date for filing income tax returns for tax year 2019 for salaried individuals, business individuals, Association of Persons (AOPs) up to December 31, 2019 from existing last date of December 16, 2019.

The PTBA informed the FBR chairman that due to late publication of draft / final return2019 of individuals, salaried individuals and AOPs for tax year 2019, critical financial/business situation all over the country and uncertainty regarding retailers / wholesalers declaration under fixed tax regime, the consultants are unable to file the tax returns of their client’s / taxpayers.

The PTBA further said that the taxpayers had filed 1.8 million returns for tax year 2019 so far, whereas the number of returns filed electronically for the tax year 2018 were 2,711,098 till to date means shortfall of 34 percent or 911,098 are still pending even after extension of date till December 16, 2019.
