Islamabad, February 18, 2025 – Several districts of Punjab are currently experiencing gusty winds accompanied by heavy rains, as the region braces for significant weather changes.
In Punjab, Lahore and its surrounding districts are expected to witness intense gusty winds coupled with substantial rainfall. Areas such as Sargodha, Mianwali, Bhakkar, Khushab, Hafizabad, Gujranwala, Mandi Bahauddin, and Gujrat are also likely to receive rainfall, with the effects anticipated to spread to other parts of the province. These weather conditions are expected to cause some disruptions, particularly in urban areas where heavy rains are expected to lead to waterlogging and reduced visibility.
In addition to the rain, the hill stations of Murree and Galyat, along with other mountainous regions of Punjab, will experience both rain and snowfall. There is also a possibility of snow extending to other parts of the province, making it crucial for travelers to remain vigilant. The snowfall is expected to create challenging conditions in the higher altitudes of Punjab.
Looking ahead to February 19, light rain is anticipated in several southern and central cities of Punjab, including Multan, Dera Ghazi Khan, Layyah, Muzaffargarh, Khanewal, Sahiwal, Pakpattan, Okara, and Bahawalnagar. The northern hilly regions of the province will also likely witness light snowfall. The weather pattern will cause further cold temperatures across the province, affecting daily activities in rural and urban areas alike.
The Director General of the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), Irfan Ali Kathia, has advised tourists to exercise caution and adjust their travel plans in light of the prevailing weather conditions. In particular, those heading toward the hill stations of Punjab should be aware of the risks posed by snowfall and icy roads.
In light of these expected weather changes, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a weather advisory, forecasting continued rain and snowfall from February 19 to 21. Western winds are expected to sweep across the upper regions of the country, triggering these weather patterns, which include gusty winds and heavy rainfall.
The PDMA’s control room is continuously monitoring the situation, and citizens are urged to avoid unnecessary travel during adverse weather. For emergencies, PDMA’s helpline 1129 remains available to provide assistance. Additionally, many areas of Punjab are forecasted to remain cold and partly cloudy in the next twelve hours.
Temperatures across key cities this morning were recorded as follows: Islamabad and Muzaffarabad at 7°C, Lahore at 15°C, Karachi at 22°C, Peshawar and Quetta at 9°C, Gilgit at 4°C, and Murree at 2°C. These temperatures are expected to drop further as the weather system progresses.
