Islamabad, January 23, 2025 – Punjab is bracing for very cold weather conditions across many regions over the next 48 hours, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).
The forecast highlights significant temperature drops in multiple areas of the province.
According to the PMD, Punjab’s weather outlook is as follows:
Thursday (night): Most districts of Punjab are expected to experience cold and dry weather. However, very cold conditions are anticipated in Murree, Galliyat, and surrounding areas. Shallow fog patches are likely to persist in regions such as Bahawalnagar, Bahawalpur, Multan, Okara, and Sahiwal.
Friday: Cold and dry weather will prevail across most districts of Punjab. Murree, Galliyat, and nearby areas will continue to experience very cold conditions. Shallow fog patches are expected during the morning and nighttime in Bahawalnagar, Bahawalpur, Multan, Okara, and Sahiwal.
The PMD also provided updates for other provinces:
Sindh:
• Thursday (night): Cold and dry weather is expected in most districts, with shallow fog patches likely in Sukkur, Larkana, and surrounding areas.
• Friday: Similar conditions will prevail, with fog expected during the morning and nighttime in Sukkur and Larkana.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa:
• Thursday (night): Cold and dry weather will dominate most districts, with very cold conditions in upper areas.
• Friday: The weather will remain cold and dry across most districts, with upper areas experiencing severe cold.
Balochistan:
• Thursday (night): Cold and dry weather is forecasted in most districts, with very cold conditions in northern areas.
• Friday: The same trend will continue, with the northern districts facing particularly harsh cold weather.
National Overview: Continental air is prevailing over most parts of the country. The forecast is as follows:
• Thursday: Cold and dry weather is expected in most regions, with very cold conditions in hilly areas.
• Friday: Mainly cold and dry weather will persist nationwide, with hilly areas remaining particularly cold.
Past 24 Hours: Cold and dry weather prevailed across most parts of the country. Light rain was recorded in Kalat, Balochistan (1 mm). Minimum temperatures dropped significantly, with Leh and Gupis recording −08°C, followed by Astor and Kalam at −07°C, and Skardu at −05°C. Murree recorded −01°C, reflecting Punjab’s ongoing cold wave.
Residents in Punjab are advised to take precautions as the province faces intense cold in the coming days.
