Islamabad, September 22, 2024 – Nasir Mansoor Qureshi has been elected as the new president of the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI), marking a new chapter for the business community of the capital.
In elections held at the Chamber House, Qureshi was chosen as President alongside Abdul Rahman Siddiqui, who will serve as Senior Vice President, and Nasir Mehmood Chaudhry, who will take on the role of Vice President.
All three office bearers were elected unopposed, reflecting the strong confidence placed in them by the business community. The newly elected leaders will formally assume their duties on October 1, 2024, according to a news release from ICCI.
Speaking after his election, President-elect Nasir Mansoor Qureshi expressed his commitment to promoting the interests of the business community and addressing their concerns. He emphasized the need for stronger collaboration between the Chamber and government departments responsible for trade and industry, noting that improved cooperation is key to solving pressing issues faced by businesses.
“I will make every effort to ensure the prosperity and progress of the business community by focusing on their concerns and making business easier in Islamabad,” Qureshi stated. He further emphasized the importance of creating a conducive environment for trade by providing the government with workable proposals that could boost economic activity.
Qureshi also outlined his vision for attracting international investment to Pakistan. He expressed his intention to explore opportunities to connect local businesses with global markets, thereby expanding the country’s trade footprint. “Now is the time to pave the way for international investments in Pakistan. Our team will work to create new avenues for trade and investment, positioning local businesses on the international stage,” he added.
Outgoing ICCI President Ahsan Zafar Bakhtawari congratulated the newly elected leaders and assured them of his continued support. He acknowledged the achievements made during his tenure and expressed confidence that the new leadership would take ICCI to greater heights. “I am confident that Nasir Mansoor Qureshi and his team will bring further success to ICCI and continue to work for the growth and development of the business community,” he said.
Khalid Iqbal Malik, Chairman of the Founder Group, also extended his congratulations, remarking that the unopposed election of the new office bearers demonstrated the business community’s trust in the leadership of the Founder Group. He encouraged the new leaders to build on the Chamber’s past successes and elevate ICCI’s role in promoting business interests.
Zafar Bakhtawari, former ICCI President and Secretary General of the United Business Group (UBG), expressed similar sentiments. He voiced confidence that the new leadership team would work diligently to strengthen the Chamber’s image and serve the business community effectively.
The newly elected Senior Vice President Abdul Rahman Siddiqui echoed these goals, stating that connecting local businesses to global markets would be a central focus. Vice President Nasir Mehmood Chaudhry added that the leadership team was well aware of the challenges facing the business community and was prepared to address them head-on.
The results of the election were announced by Chief Election Commissioner Zahid Maqbool, along with Commission members Khalid Chaudhry and Zaheer ud Din Babar.
