Reese Witherspoon confirms ‘Legally Blonde’ returning to theatres ahead of new prequel release

Reese Witherspoon has announced a special theatrical return of Legally Blonde as the iconic comedy approaches its 25th anniversary.

The Oscar-winning actress revealed in a video shared on Instagram that the hit 2001 romantic comedy will return to cinemas for two days only on May 24 and May 27.

“I seriously cannot believe Legally Blonde came out 25 years ago. Where did the time go?” Witherspoon said in the video while dressed in pink, referencing the film’s signature aesthetic.

The actress encouraged fans to revisit the film in theatres with friends, joking that audiences could wear pink, quote the movie’s memorable lines and recreate the famous “bend and snap” scene.

The anniversary celebration will also include a preview of the upcoming prequel series Elle, which is scheduled to premiere on Prime Video on July 1.

The series stars Lexi Minetree as Elle Woods, the character originally portrayed by Witherspoon in the film franchise.

Witherspoon is serving as executive producer of the prequel project.

Released in 2001, Legally Blonde became a major commercial success and developed a lasting pop culture legacy through its portrayal of ambitious law student Elle Woods.

The film also spawned a sequel, stage adaptations and a devoted fan following over the past two decades.

Witherspoon concluded her announcement by encouraging fans and families to experience the film again on the big screen.
