Rockstar Games has confirmed that players who pre-order the digital version of Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6) will be able to preload the game beginning November 12, one week before its scheduled launch on November 19.
The preload feature will be available for both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, allowing players to download the game in advance and begin playing as soon as it officially launches.
GTA 6 preload starts November 12
According to Rockstar, digital pre-orders of GTA 6 can begin downloading the game from midnight local time on November 12.
The early download period is designed to ensure players are ready to play immediately when the game unlocks on launch day.
Rockstar has not yet disclosed the game’s final download size, but expectations remain high that GTA 6 will require substantial storage space given its scale and open-world design.
Physical edition buyers may have to wait
Players purchasing the physical edition may not receive the same advantage.
The retail version is expected to include a download code rather than the full game on disc, meaning customers will need to receive their package before they can begin downloading the title.
Shipping delays could prevent some physical edition buyers from preloading the game before release.
Standard and Ultimate editions available
Rockstar opened GTA 6 pre-orders in June, offering Standard and Ultimate editions.
While the Ultimate Edition includes additional in-game content, the Standard Edition offers a more limited package, with some optional content available through separate purchases.
The company has yet to reveal a third trailer focused on gameplay or confirm the final installation size.
GTA 6 launches in November
Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled to launch on November 19, 2026, exclusively for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
With preload support now confirmed, players will have a full week to download the game and prepare storage ahead of what is expected to be one of the biggest video game releases of the year.
