Rolex has introduced the Perpetual 1908 in its 2023 collection, a timepiece crafted from 18kt gold.
The Perpetual 1908 comes in a 39mm size and is available in two captivating designs: 18kt yellow gold polished finish and 18kt white gold polished finish.
The Perpetual 1908 by Rolex embodies the brand’s enduring adventurous spirit, seamlessly blending elegance, classicism, and modernity. It pays homage to the brand’s rich heritage while also showcasing its innovative advancements in watchmaking.
This timepiece represents a significant milestone in the company’s quest for perfection. The watch’s design and development are a testament to Rolex’s extensive in-house knowledge and expertise.
Taking inspiration from a 1931 Oyster Perpetual, this fresh creation meets Rolex’s standards for a thinner timepiece and introduces the Perpetual collection, which embodies the brand’s avant-garde philosophy by reimagining the traditional wristwatch.
The watch’s name, “1908,” honors the official registration date of the “Rolex” trademark in Switzerland.
The 1908 imbues classic style with contemporary flair. The dial exudes elegance and refinement, showcasing faceted hour markers made of 18 kt yellow or white gold against a deep black or bright white backdrop.
Protected by a domed sapphire crystal, the dial features a delicate “railroad” minute track encircling the circumference. The watch’s minute hand is shaped like a two-edged sword, and the hours are marked by a hand with a pierced circle.
Crafted from 18 kt yellow or white gold, the exquisitely slender case of the 1908 watch is adorned with a transparent case back, which offers a glimpse into the watch’s intricate movement and finishing details.
The oscillating weight, crafted from 18 kt yellow gold, is cut-out to create a visually striking effect, and the movement boasts the signature Rolex Côtes de Genève decoration – an interpretation of a traditional watchmaking decoration, enhanced with a polished groove between each band. By incorporating a sapphire transparent case back, Rolex showcases its innovative spirit while remaining true to its watchmaking heritage.
Powering the 1908 watch is the Calibre 7140, a brand new self-winding movement developed entirely in-house by Rolex engineers. This slim movement features two central hands and a small seconds hand at 6 o’clock and is the subject of five patent applications.
It is equipped with the Syloxi hairspring, Chronergy escapement, and Paraflex shock absorbers, ensuring exceptional chronometric performance with an accuracy of -2/+2 seconds per day. The movement also provides an impressive power reserve of approximately 66 hours.
The new Dualclasp of the 1908 watch is crafted from 18 kt yellow or white gold and designed to offer exceptional comfort during wear by adjusting to the shape of the wrist. Comprised of two folding, symmetrical blades, the Dualclasp ensures effortless opening and closing of the mechanism while ensuring a secure closure of the alligator leather strap.
