After months of secrecy, Sadie Sink has finally opened up about joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Jean Grey, revealing that she is “so excited” to explore the iconic X-Men character’s future following her debut in Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
Speaking to Variety, Sink admitted that she feels relieved now that audiences know who she is portraying. The Stranger Things star explained that keeping her role secret throughout filming and the promotional campaign was both exciting and challenging.
Sink also revealed that she has long admired Jean Grey and is eager to discover how Marvel will develop the character in future projects.
Sadie Sink on playing a new version of Jean Grey
According to Sink, her version of Jean Grey will differ from previous live-action interpretations of the character.
Rather than introducing Jean as an established superhero, the MCU will reportedly present her as a traumatised young mutant struggling to control powerful telepathic and telekinetic abilities following years of manipulation by the Department of Damage Control.
For Sink, portraying Jean’s emotional vulnerability is just as important as bringing her extraordinary powers to life.
The actress has also confirmed that conversations about Jean’s future have already begun with X-Men director Jake Schreier. While she remained tight-lipped about specific story details, Sink described the prospect of continuing Jean’s story as “so exciting”.
She compared the experience to joining Stranger Things, where she was able to watch her character develop and evolve across multiple projects.
