Samsung expects Galaxy Z Fold 8 to lead foldable sales

Report says Samsung has increased Galaxy Z Fold 8 production ahead of Galaxy Unpacked, signalling strong confidence in the wider foldable’s demand.

Samsung is reportedly expecting the Galaxy Z Fold 8 to become the best-selling model in its upcoming foldable smartphone lineup, according to a new industry report ahead of the company’s Galaxy Unpacked event on July 22.

Citing industry sources, South Korea’s ET News reported that Samsung has planned to manufacture approximately 2.8 million units of the Galaxy Z Fold 8, significantly more than the production targets for its other foldable devices.

The report claims Samsung has set production of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra at around 2 million units, while the Galaxy Z Flip 8 is expected to reach 1.5 million units.

Samsung had initially planned similar production volumes for both Fold models. However, the company is now said to have increased expectations for the standard Galaxy Z Fold 8, which features a wider 4:3 aspect ratio display.

According to the report, Samsung believes the wider foldable design will appeal to more consumers and could become the preferred format for book-style foldable smartphones.

Industry analysts also point to Apple’s expected entry into the foldable smartphone market later this year. Reports suggest Apple’s first foldable iPhone will also adopt a 4:3 aspect ratio, reinforcing the view that the wider design is becoming the industry’s preferred standard.

One industry source quoted by ET News said the foldable iPhone’s display format is effectively being accepted as the market standard for future foldable devices.

Samsung is widely expected to unveil three foldable smartphones during its upcoming Galaxy Unpacked event: the Galaxy Z Fold 8, Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, and Galaxy Z Flip 8.

Leaks suggest both Fold models will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy processor, while the Galaxy Z Flip 8 could feature either Qualcomm’s Snapdragon chipset or Samsung’s Exynos 2600, depending on the region.

Reports have also indicated that Samsung’s new foldables may launch at higher prices than their predecessors, with analysts pointing to rising memory costs and broader supply-chain pressures.

Despite the anticipated price increase, Samsung’s production plans indicate the company remains confident that the Galaxy Z Fold 8 will attract strong consumer demand and become the flagship model of its next-generation foldable lineup.
