Samsung, Duolingo and Motorola turn Apple’s first foldable iPhone launch into a playful social-media showdown, highlighting the growing rivalry in the foldable smartphone market.
Apple’s entry into the foldable smartphone market has sparked a series of humorous reactions from rival brands, with Samsung, Duolingo and Motorola using social media to poke fun at the newly unveiled iPhone Duo.
Apple introduced the iPhone Duo on Wednesday as its first foldable smartphone, marking the company’s entry into a segment where Samsung has been competing for several years.
Samsung, which launched its first Galaxy Fold in 2019, was among the first companies to respond to Apple’s announcement. Samsung Mobile US referenced the “Duo” name in a post on X while bringing language-learning platform Duolingo into the conversation.
“I’m so sorry, Duolingo. They copied us too. Solidarity,” Samsung posted.
Duolingo quickly joined the exchange with a joke of its own, replying: “When an ugly stranger calls you twin. No Brand.”
Samsung responded: “Ugly?? Watch your language.”
The playful argument continued, with Duolingo replying: “Sorry twin, heat of the moment twin. Please don’t break my app on your phone’s twin.”
The exchange added a lighter tone to what is otherwise an increasingly competitive smartphone market, with major manufacturers seeking to differentiate their foldable devices through design, software and hardware innovations.
Samsung later took another direct swipe at Apple, posting: “Let us know when you’re done reheating our leftovers.” The comment appeared to reference Samsung’s long-running presence in the foldable smartphone segment.
Motorola Joins the Conversation
Motorola also entered the social-media discussion with a post highlighting the evolution of its Razr foldable smartphone range.
The company shared a video featuring several generations of the iconic Razr, before showcasing newer foldable designs and teasing its future plans.
“Some are just discovering it. We’ve been making it even better. Just wait for our next move,” Motorola wrote.
The posts quickly attracted attention online, with users sharing and commenting on the brand-to-brand exchanges. While many viewers found the banter entertaining, others used the opportunity to make jokes about the companies involved.
Apple’s arrival is nevertheless significant for the foldable smartphone market, potentially increasing competition as established players such as Samsung and Motorola face a new challenger with Apple’s ecosystem and customer base.
