New foldables feature redesigned form factors, Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chips, improved displays and faster charging.
Samsung Electronics on Tuesday unveiled the Galaxy Z Fold8 Wide and Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra at its Galaxy Unpacked event, introducing a redesigned foldable lineup featuring larger batteries, upgraded displays, faster charging and a new Flex Titanium hinge technology.
The South Korean technology giant described the new Galaxy Z series as its “most complete lineup yet,” with the Galaxy Z Fold8 Wide joining the traditional book-style Fold lineup as a new model designed around a wider form factor.
The Galaxy Z Fold8 Wide features a 5.5-inch cover display with a 10:16 aspect ratio and unfolds into a 7.6-inch inner display with a 4:3 aspect ratio, making it suitable for productivity, reading and multimedia. Both LTPO OLED panels support adaptive refresh rates from 1Hz to 120Hz, while the inner display reaches a peak brightness of 3,000 nits with a low-reflection coating.
Samsung has equipped the Fold8 Wide with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy processor, paired with 12GB of RAM on the 256GB and 512GB variants, while the 1TB model receives 16GB of RAM.
The smartphone also introduces a larger 4,800mAh battery, an upgrade over its predecessor, supporting 45W wired charging, 20W wireless charging and reverse wireless charging.
For photography, the Fold8 Wide includes a 50MP primary camera with optical image stabilization, a 50MP ultra-wide camera and dual 10MP selfie cameras positioned on the cover and inner displays.
Samsung also introduced the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, positioning it as the flagship foldable in its portfolio. The device features a 200MP primary camera with improved HDR capabilities, 8K video recording using the APV codec and support for Cine LUTs directly on the handset.
The Fold8 Ultra also receives a new 50MP ultra-wide camera, while retaining a 10MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom. Like the Fold8 Wide, it is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy chipset across all markets.
Samsung increased the Fold8 Ultra’s battery capacity to 5,000mAh, nearly 14% larger than the previous generation, while upgrading wired charging to 45W and wireless charging to 20W.
Both foldables debut with Android 17 and One UI 9, offering Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0 and IP48-rated dust and water resistance.
Samsung also introduced Flex Titanium, a redesigned display reinforcement system combining a titanium-alloy film with an enhanced titanium support plate. The company said the technology improves durability, reduces crease formation and delivers a smoother folding experience.
The Galaxy Z Fold8 Wide will be available in Graphite, Cream and Lavender, with an online-exclusive Pistachio finish. The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra comes in Graphite, Cream and Violet Shadow, alongside an exclusive Green Shadow colour on Samsung’s online store.
Pre-orders for both smartphones begin immediately. Samsung is also offering buyers a six-month Google AI Pro subscription, including 5TB of cloud storage, as part of the launch promotion.
