SBP Confirms Legal Tender Status for Rs 75 Banknote

Karachi, October 12, 2023 – The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has officially confirmed that the Rs 75 banknote is legal tender throughout the country.

The SBP emphasized that, in accordance with Section 25 of the State Bank of Pakistan Act, 1956, all banknotes, including commemorative notes issued by the SBP, hold legal tender status and are valid for use anywhere in Pakistan for the amount stated on the note, with the full guarantee of the Federal Government.

The SBP’s announcement clarifies that the Rs 75 banknote, which was predominantly green and issued on August 14, 2022, to commemorate 75 years of Pakistan’s Independence, along with the Rs 75 banknote, predominantly blue and issued on July 4, 2023, to mark the 75th anniversary of SBP’s inception, are both legal tender and can be used across Pakistan.

These banknotes are fully eligible to be used for conducting financial transactions, settling private and public obligations, and performing the role of a medium of exchange. Additionally, the SBP and all commercial banks are required to issue and accept these banknotes from the public, ensuring their continued circulation in the economy.

This announcement serves to reiterate the legal status and acceptance of these commemorative banknotes, providing clarity for individuals and businesses using these denominations in their daily financial activities.
