SBP clarifies nature of exchange rates

The central bank said the exchange rates are compiled and disseminated for information purposes only.

The rates represent estimates of exchange rates quoted by various commercial banks to their customers. They are compiled from daily exchange rate sheets issued by commercial banks, which provide indicative rates for commercial transactions with customers.

The SBP’s weighted average customer exchange rates therefore serve as an indicative reference rather than guaranteed transaction rates available uniformly across the banking sector.
