SBP Declares Bank Holiday on Allama Iqbal Day

Karachi, November 4, 2023 – The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has officially announced a bank holiday scheduled for November 9, 2023, in observance of Allama Iqbal Day.

This decision comes as part of a nationwide celebration to honor the great poet and philosopher, Allama Iqbal.

In a formal statement released today, the SBP confirmed that it will be closed on Thursday, November 9, 2023, in line with the public holiday declared by the Government of Pakistan. This holiday is dedicated to commemorating the life and contributions of Allama Iqbal, a prominent figure in the country’s history.

Allama Iqbal was a philosopher, poet, and politician who played a pivotal role in the intellectual and political awakening of the Muslims of the Indian subcontinent during the early 20th century. He is best known for his poetry, which inspired the idea of an independent Muslim state, ultimately leading to the creation of Pakistan in 1947.

Allama Iqbal Day is celebrated with great enthusiasm and reverence throughout Pakistan. On this occasion, various events, seminars, and gatherings are organized to discuss his philosophy, works, and his vision for a separate homeland for Muslims. His poetry, which is both inspirational and thought-provoking, continues to be a source of inspiration for people across Pakistan.

The declaration of a bank holiday on Allama Iqbal Day allows the people of Pakistan to pay their respects, reflect on the teachings of the great philosopher, and participate in events and activities organized to commemorate his legacy.

While the SBP’s offices will be closed on November 9, 2023, it’s important for the public to plan their banking transactions accordingly. ATMs, online banking services, and mobile banking apps may still be available for essential transactions during the holiday. Banks and financial institutions are encouraged to communicate any special arrangements or alternative banking options to their customers in advance to ensure a smooth banking experience during the holiday.
