Market analysts said the higher KIBOR rates reflected tightening liquidity conditions in the banking system and expectations of further monetary tightening by the central bank to contain rising inflationary pressures.
The benchmark rates are widely used by commercial banks for pricing corporate loans, consumer financing and other lending products across the country. Financial experts noted that the upward trend in interbank rates could increase borrowing costs for businesses and individuals, particularly for sectors dependent on short-term financing. They added that the movement in KIBOR also serves as an important indicator of market expectations regarding future interest rate adjustments by the State Bank of Pakistan.
Investors and corporate entities closely monitor these rates as they influence investment decisions, debt servicing costs and overall economic activity. The latest rates indicate cautious sentiment in the financial market amid inflation concerns and external account pressures facing the economy.
