Seinfeld renewed on Netflix for another five years

Sony Pictures Television extends streaming deal, keeping all nine seasons of the hit sitcom on Netflix.

Seinfeld is set to remain on Netflix for another five years after Sony Pictures Television renewed its licensing agreement with the streaming platform.

The long-running sitcom, starring Jerry Seinfeld alongside Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Jason Alexander and Michael Richards, will continue to be available to Netflix subscribers under the new agreement.

Seinfeld originally arrived on Netflix in 2021 after the streaming service secured its global streaming rights from Sony. The renewal ensures the popular comedy will remain part of Netflix’s catalogue for at least another five years.

The sitcom continues to rank among the most recognisable comedy series available on the platform. Created by Larry David and Jerry Seinfeld, Seinfeld ran for nine seasons between 1989 and 1998, producing 180 episodes centred on the everyday lives, relationships and misadventures of Seinfeld and his friends in New York.

Sony has also renewed its cable rights agreement for Seinfeld with Paramount for another three years.

The two separate agreements will allow the sitcom to maintain a presence across both streaming and traditional television, extending its availability to audiences through multiple platforms.

Netflix first secured the global streaming rights to Seinfeld in a major deal announced in 2019. The series officially arrived on the platform on October 1, 2021.

Before its move to Netflix, Seinfeld had been available for streaming on Hulu in the United States.

The latest renewal means subscribers will be able to continue watching all nine seasons of the sitcom on Netflix, preserving the show’s place in the streaming service’s comedy library.

With its latest licensing agreement, Netflix will continue to host one of television’s most enduring sitcoms, while Sony retains the series’ broader distribution presence through both streaming and cable television.
