Selena Gomez backs Benny Blanco during five-day pizza diet experiment

Benny Blanco documented the unusual challenge on TikTok, while Selena Gomez joined him during a date night in Los Angeles.

Selena Gomez supported her husband, music producer Benny Blanco, as he took on an unusual five-day experiment in which he ate nothing but pizza while attempting to see whether he could lose weight without restricting his favourite food.

Blanco, 38, documented the challenge on TikTok, saying he wanted to test whether a person could lose weight while “eating literally anything”.

For five days, the producer ate one large thin-crust pizza each day, including during a date night with Gomez at Los Angeles’ Sunset Tower Hotel.

While Gomez enjoyed food from the restaurant, Blanco stuck to the rules of his experiment and continued with his daily pizza.

Benny Blanco says pizza challenge took its toll

The experiment appeared to become increasingly difficult for Blanco as the days went on.

By the third day, he admitted: “I hate my life.”

His mood had not improved by the fifth day, when he joked that he could barely remember what his life had been like before the pizza challenge.

“I don’t even remember myself as a human being. Like, what was life before pizza?”

Despite his struggles, Blanco completed the five-day experiment and stepped on the scales to compare his weight with his starting point.

He weighed 152.2 pounds before beginning the challenge. Five days later, the scale showed 147.5 pounds, representing a reported loss of 4.7 pounds.

“I just lost 4.7 pounds eating pizza. Nothing matters, do whatever you want,” Blanco declared after seeing the result.

Gomez joins the viral experiment

Gomez appeared in Blanco’s TikTok during the couple’s date night.

The pop star appeared to support Blanco as he continued with the unusual challenge, even though she was able to enjoy the restaurant’s regular menu while he remained committed to eating pizza.

The experiment attracted attention online because of its unusual premise and Blanco’s increasingly humorous reaction to eating the same food every day.

However, a five-day change on the weighing scales does not establish that eating only pizza is an effective or healthy weight-loss strategy. Short-term weight changes can be affected by factors such as water retention and the amount of food in the digestive system, rather than changes in body fat alone.

Blanco’s long-standing love of food

The challenge also reflects Blanco’s well-known enthusiasm for food.

The producer released his cookbook “Open Wide: A Cookbook for Friends” in 2024, combining his interest in cooking and entertaining with his career in music.

He is also preparing to release “Fk Failure” on September 15, continuing his wider creative projects outside music production.

For Blanco, the pizza experiment offered another way to combine his passion for food with the candid and humorous content that has helped him attract attention on social media.
