DHAKA, April 27 — Bangladesh national cricket team have named Najmul Hossain Shanto as captain of their 15-member squad for the first Test against Pakistan national cricket team, scheduled to begin on May 8 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka.

The series forms part of the 2025–27 ICC World Test Championship cycle, with Bangladesh aiming to improve their standing after a challenging run in the longer format.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board confirmed that Shanto will continue as skipper, while Mehidy Hasan Miraz will serve as vice-captain for the opening Test. The squad blends experienced campaigners with emerging talent as selectors look to balance stability with long-term development.

Veteran batter Mushfiqur Rahim and wicketkeeper Litton Das are included, alongside Mominul Haque, Mahmudul Hasan Joy and Shadman Islam in the batting unit. The bowling attack features Taskin Ahmed, Shoriful Islam, Ebadot Hossain and Nahid Rana, providing pace options for home conditions, while Taijul Islam and Nayeem Hasan offer spin depth.

Two uncapped players have earned call-ups. Tanzid Hasan, a regular in limited-overs cricket with over 1,900 international runs across ODIs and T20Is, is in line for a potential Test debut. Middle-order batter Amite Hasan, who averages 49 in first-class cricket since his debut in 2019, is also included.

Taskin and Shoriful return to the Test setup after last featuring in late 2024, while off-spinner Nayeem Hasan makes a comeback to red-ball cricket.

Bangladesh currently sit eighth in the World Test Championship standings and will be targeting valuable points against Pakistan in the two-match series. The second Test will be played in Sylhet from May 16 to 20.
