Shipping Activity at Port Qasim for December 27, 2023

Karachi, December 27, 2023 – The Port Qasim Authority (PQA) reported active shipping operations on Wednesday, December 27, 2023, showcasing a bustling maritime environment with diverse cargo handling.

According to the PQA, three vessels—MSC Jemima, Pacific Victory, and Simaisma—berthed at Container Terminal, Bulk Terminal, and Elengy Terminal, respectively, on Tuesday. These ships were laden with containers, coal, and liquefied natural gas (LNG). Simultaneously, three additional vessels—Maersk Cabo Verde, Cap Andreas, and Neutron Sound—arrived at the outer anchorage of the port during the last 24 hours, carrying containers and mogas.

At present, eight ships were engaged at PQA berths, with MSC Jemima departing the port on Wednesday morning. Two more ships, Al-Jalaa and Saehan Kostar, are expected to sail later in the afternoon.

The cargo throughput in the past 24 hours stood at an impressive 136,746 tonnes, comprising 90,610 tonnes of imported cargo and 46,136 tonnes of exported cargo. The handling of containerized cargo was notable, with 1,804 containers (895 TEUs for imports and 909 TEUs for exports) processed at the port.

Looking ahead, five ships are currently at the Outer Anchorage of Port Qasim. Three of them—Cap Andreas, Cabo Verde, and Sparto, along with another ship, Isabella, carrying containers, mogas, and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), are expected to take berths at QICT, FOTCO, and EVTL on Wednesday. Additionally, the containership Maersk Kensington is due to arrive at Port Qasim on the same day, while the arrival of the vessel Vancour is anticipated on Thursday.

The varied cargo handling activities reflect the strategic significance of Port Qasim as a major gateway for trade in the region. The port’s efficiency in managing diverse shipments, from containers to bulk cargo and LNG, underscores its crucial role in facilitating both imports and exports.
