Barite-Lead-Zinc project in Khuzdar moves into implementation phase after key lease issues are resolved, boosting Pakistan’s mining sector.
Pakistan has taken another major step toward unlocking its mineral wealth as the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) has helped clear obstacles that delayed the Barite-Lead-Zinc (BLZ) Project in Khuzdar.
The breakthrough has paved the way for a strategic investment of approximately $200 million, highlighting the country’s continued efforts to attract large-scale investments in the mining sector.
The BLZ Project, located in the mineral-rich district of Khuzdar, Balochistan, has remained on the SIFC’s priority agenda since December 2023.
With key administrative and lease-related hurdles now resolved, the project is set to advance into its implementation stage, marking a significant milestone for Pakistan’s mineral development strategy.
The mining venture is being undertaken by Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) in partnership with Bolan Mining Enterprises (BME). Under the joint venture arrangement, PPL has been designated as the project operator while holding a 50 percent working interest.
The collaboration is expected to combine technical expertise and operational capacity to develop one of Pakistan’s most valuable mineral deposits.
According to official estimates, the Khuzdar project contains nearly 69 million tons of Barite, Lead, and Zinc reserves.
The mine is projected to remain operational for around 34 years, ensuring a long-term contribution to Pakistan’s mining industry.
Annual revenues generated from the project are expected to range between $150 million and $230 million, while also supporting higher mineral exports and creating employment opportunities in Balochistan.
A major breakthrough came during the Pakistan Mineral Forum 2025, where the project’s Operational Agreement was signed after the successful resolution of long-standing lease issues.
The agreement officially initiated the implementation phase, allowing development work to proceed after years of delays.
The progress of the BLZ Project reflects the government’s broader strategy to create a more investment-friendly environment by addressing regulatory bottlenecks and facilitating strategic projects.
Authorities believe such initiatives will improve investor confidence and accelerate the responsible development of Pakistan’s untapped mineral resources.
With the Khuzdar project moving forward, SIFC has further strengthened its role in promoting high-value investments across key economic sectors.
The successful resolution of the project’s outstanding issues is expected to enhance Pakistan’s mining potential, stimulate regional economic growth, and contribute to the country’s long-term economic development through sustainable utilization of its natural resources.
