Karachi, June 14, 2023: The Sindh Integrated Emergency and Health Services 1122 has taken proactive measures in response to the approaching tropical cyclone Biparjoy by deploying 60 ambulances along the coastal belt of Sindh.
In compliance with directives from the Health Department, the SIEHS has strategically stationed ambulances at crucial points across nine districts of Sindh that are anticipated to be affected by the cyclone.
To ensure efficient emergency response, the ambulances have been deployed as follows: 14 locations in Karachi, 4 locations each in Hyderabad and Mirpurkhas, 2 locations in Tando Allahyar, 3 locations in Tharparkar, 5 locations in Umar Kot, 9 locations in Sujawal, 8 locations in Thatta, and 5 locations in Badin.
The SIEHS possesses a sufficient number of ambulances in reserve, while trained personnel will be available round the clock, seven days a week, to promptly respond to any emergencies that may arise.
Additionally, the SIEHS officials on the ground are maintaining close coordination with the Ministry of Health, PDMA, Commissioners, Deputy Commissioners, District Health Officers (DHOs), and other local administration bodies from various districts. This collaborative effort ensures full support and cooperation during the rain emergency declared by the Government of Sindh.
It is noteworthy that tropical cyclone Biparjoy has intensified into an “Extremely Severe Cyclonic Storm” (ESCS) of Category 3, featuring sustained winds ranging from 160-180 km/h and gusts of up to 200 km/h.
The projected path of tropical storm Biparjoy indicates a northward trajectory, with landfall expected between Keti Bandar (Southeast Sindh Coastline) and the Indian Gujarat Coastline on the afternoon of June 15, 2023, as a very severe Cyclonic Storm (VSCS).
The proactive deployment of ambulances by the Sindh 1122 along the coastal belt demonstrates the government’s commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of the people in the face of impending natural disasters. The presence of these ambulances will play a crucial role in providing swift medical assistance and emergency services to the affected communities during and after the cyclone.
