Sindh Announces Eid-ul-Fitr Holidays Until April 2, 2025

The Sindh government has officially declared public holidays for Eid-ul-Fitr, extending from March 31 to April 2, 2025, according to an official notification issued on Friday.

The decision ensures that government offices, semi-government institutions, and public-sector organizations across Sindh will remain closed for three days in celebration of the religious festival.

As per the notification signed by Sindh Chief Secretary Asif Haider Shah, these holidays will apply to all provincial government offices, while banks and essential services may follow separate directives issued by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) and relevant authorities.

The announcement aligns with the federal government’s declaration of a nationwide three-day Eid holiday. The Cabinet Division confirmed that all federal offices will observe Eid holidays from March 31 to April 2, 2025.

The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, alongside Sindh’s zonal moon sighting committee, will convene on the evening of March 30, 2025 (Ramazan 29, 1446 AH), to observe the Shawwal moon. The committee’s meeting will take place at the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony, where religious scholars, meteorological experts, and astronomers will analyze moon sighting reports from across the country, including Sindh, to confirm the date of Eid-ul-Fitr.

In February, the Pakistan Space & Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (Suparco) provided its astronomical forecasts regarding the visibility of the Shawwal moon. Based on scientific calculations and modern observational data, Suparco indicated that the moon is likely to be visible on March 30, 2025. If confirmed, Eid-ul-Fitr will fall on March 31, 2025, across Sindh and the rest of Pakistan.

Since Islamic tradition emphasizes unaided-eye moon sighting for determining Islamic months, the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will examine testimonies from across Sindh and other provinces before making an official announcement.

The Eid holidays in Sindh will provide citizens an opportunity to celebrate with family and friends while marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan.
