Sindh Excise collects Rs5.7 billion in July 2019

KARACHI: The Sindh Excise Department has reported an impressive collection of Rs5.7 billion under various tax heads, including infrastructure cess, motor vehicles, properties, etc., for the month of July 2019.

Sindh Minister for Excise and Taxation, Narcotics Control, and Parliamentary Affairs, Mukesh Kumar Chawla, shared this significant achievement during a meeting held at his office on Monday. The meeting was attended by Secretary Excise and Taxation and Narcotics Control Abdul Haleem Shaikh, Director Generals Shabbir Ahmed Shaikh, Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui, and other officers.

Mukesh Kumar Chawla, while presiding over the meeting, commended the Sindh Excise Department for its exceptional performance in revenue collection during the first month of the current financial year.

According to the Director General of Excise and Taxation, Shabbir Ahmed Shaikh, the department achieved the following collections:

1. Motor Vehicle Tax: Rs 699.441 million

2. Infrastructure Cess: Rs 4 billion

3. Professional Tax: Rs 47.041 million

4. Cotton Fee: Rs 1.209 million

5. Property Tax: Rs 479.254 million

6. Entertainment Duty: Rs 11.005 million

The remaining amount was recovered under various other tax categories. The robust revenue collection indicates the effectiveness of the Sindh Excise Department in executing its tax collection strategies.

Minister Mukesh Kumar Chawla expressed his satisfaction with the overall tax collection performance of the department. He praised the officers for their dedication and urged them to continue their hard work to meet and exceed tax collection targets.

Highlighting the achievements of the previous fiscal year, Chawla pointed out that the Sindh Excise Department had surpassed its tax collection targets by more than 100 percent. He expressed optimism that the department would continue this success in the current financial year.

The revenue collected by the Sindh Excise Department plays a crucial role in financing various development projects and public services. It contributes significantly to the economic stability and growth of the province.
