Public and private educational institutions across Sindh to observe classes from Monday to Saturday until further orders
KARACHI: The Government of Sindh has announced that all public and private educational institutions across the province will observe a six-day working week from August 1, 2026, requiring schools and colleges to remain open from Monday to Saturday until further orders.
According to a notification issued by the School Education and Literacy Department, the revised schedule supersedes the department’s earlier notification dated March 31, 2026.
The notification states that all public and private educational institutions functioning under the administrative control of the School Education and Literacy Department will observe six working days a week, effective from August 1, 2026.
Under the revised arrangement, educational institutions throughout Sindh will remain operational from Monday through Saturday until the provincial government issues fresh instructions.
The decision applies to both government-run and privately managed schools and colleges operating under the department’s jurisdiction, ensuring a uniform weekly schedule across the province.
Education authorities have directed all heads of institutions, district education officers and other concerned officials to implement the revised timetable from the notified date and ensure strict compliance with the government’s directive.
The move is expected to increase classroom teaching hours and help schools complete academic activities in accordance with the prescribed curriculum and examination schedule. Officials believe the additional instructional day will support improved learning outcomes and provide more time for co-curricular and academic programmes.
Parents, students and educational institutions have been advised to make the necessary arrangements in line with the revised schedule, while any future changes to the working week will be communicated through a separate notification issued by the School Education and Literacy Department.
