Experienced campaigners return as South Africa name a strong ODI squad for the three-match series against Australia starting September 24
JOHANNESBURG: Temba Bavuma will return as captain as South Africa welcome back several experienced players for their upcoming three-match ODI series against Australia.
Bavuma last featured in South Africa’s ODI side in December 2025 during the series against India.
Pacer Gerald Coetzee is also set to return to the 50-over format, having last played an ODI during the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 in India.
Experienced players return
Several key players are also back in the squad after being rested for South Africa’s ODI series against Namibia.
The returning players include Aiden Markram, Marco Jansen, Lungi Ngidi, David Miller, Corbin Bosch and Quinton de Kock.
The squad features a combination of experienced campaigners and emerging talent as South Africa prepare for a demanding home series against Australia.

Australia series important World Cup preparation
South Africa will host Australia in a three-match ODI series beginning September 24.
The series will provide crucial preparation for both teams ahead of next year’s ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, which will be held in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia.
The two sides will then meet in a three-match ICC World Test Championship series in October. It will be their first meeting in Test cricket since last year’s World Test Championship Final.
