Four-phase project will establish 684.91km pipeline network and provide gas connections to 8,914 prospective consumers by FY2028-29
KARACHI: Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) plans to expand gas supply to 261 villages and towns across five districts of Sindh by FY2028-29 at an estimated cost of Rs5.73 billion, according to official documents.
Under the four-phase expansion plan covering FY2025-26 to FY2028-29, SSGC will develop a 684.91-kilometre pipeline network to provide gas connections to 8,914 prospective consumers living within a five-kilometre radius of gas-producing fields.
Fifth phase covers 88 villages
The fifth phase, scheduled for FY2025-26, covers the Kousar, Tangri and Gambat South gas fields in Matiari, Tando Mohammed Khan and Sanghar districts.
The phase involves supplying gas to 88 villages through a 179.4km pipeline network, serving 2,303 prospective customers at an estimated cost of Rs1.45 billion.
SSGC received Rs1.326 billion during FY2025-26 for third-year/phase schemes aimed at supplying gas to the 88 villages located within five kilometres of producing fields.
Detailed engineering surveys have been completed, and the schemes are currently being prepared.
Rs1.49bn plan for Bobi and Hassan fields
The sixth phase, planned for FY2026-27, covers the Bobi and Hassan gas fields in Sanghar and Shikarpur districts.
It will provide gas to 46 villages through a 178.52km pipeline network, benefiting 2,710 prospective customers. The estimated cost of the phase is Rs1.495 billion.
The seventh phase, scheduled for FY2027-28, covers the Naimat Basal, Jakhoro, Wariyah and Bukhari fields in Sanghar and Tando Mohammed Khan districts.
The phase will extend gas supply to 67 villages through 171.97km of pipelines, serving 2,281 prospective customers at an estimated cost of Rs1.408 billion.
Final phase targets 60 villages
The eighth and final phase, planned for FY2028-29, covers the Sanghar East (Naimat ul Basal), Sujawal and Koonj fields in Sanghar, Sujawal and Shikarpur districts.
It involves a 155.02km pipeline network to connect 60 villages and 1,620 prospective customers, with the estimated cost standing at Rs1.373 billion.
Project cost estimated at Rs5.726bn
Overall, the four phases will cover 261 villages and towns, establish 684.91km of pipelines and provide gas connections to 8,914 prospective customers.
The total project cost is estimated at Rs5.726 billion, of which the government will contribute Rs5.245 billion, while SSGC will provide Rs481.36 million under the over-and-above cost criteria.
The government contribution represents approximately 91.6% of the total project cost, while SSGC’s share accounts for around 8.4%.
