MoU signing marks a major step toward expanding EV infrastructure, local battery manufacturing, and clean transportation in Pakistan.
Pakistan took another significant step toward advancing electric mobility as StarCharge, StarCharge Energy Pakistan, and Bahum Global Ltd signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening the country’s electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem.
The agreement was signed in the presence of Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) on Industries and Production, Haroon Akhtar Khan, on Tuesday.
The partnership is expected to support the development of EV infrastructure, encourage technological collaboration, and accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles across Pakistan. The initiative aligns with the government’s broader strategy to promote sustainable transportation and reduce reliance on conventional fuel-based vehicles.
Speaking at the ceremony, Haroon Akhtar Khan highlighted the government’s commitment to transforming Pakistan’s transportation sector through the promotion of electric mobility.
He stated that the upcoming Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) Policy is expected to play a pivotal role in driving the EV revolution by encouraging local manufacturing, attracting foreign investment, and creating a sustainable industrial environment.
He noted that the transition toward electric vehicles would help reduce Pakistan’s dependence on imported petroleum products, thereby lowering the country’s import bill. In addition, wider EV adoption is expected to contribute to environmental sustainability and strengthen national energy security.
The SAPM emphasized that the government is actively supporting the expansion of EV charging infrastructure across the country.
The establishment of more charging stations is expected to improve accessibility and convenience for consumers, encouraging greater adoption of electric vehicles in both urban and rural areas.
Haroon Akhtar Khan described electric vehicles as the future of transportation and an important driver of industrial modernization.
He said strategic partnerships with leading Chinese companies would facilitate local production of EV batteries, promote technology transfer, enhance domestic manufacturing capabilities, and create employment opportunities for Pakistan’s growing workforce.
He further stressed that Pakistan and China continue to expand cooperation in advanced manufacturing and clean energy technologies. Such collaborations, he said, would contribute significantly to Pakistan’s long-term economic growth and industrial competitiveness.
The SAPM reiterated the government’s commitment to fostering a business-friendly environment that encourages innovation, investment, and value-added manufacturing.
The signing ceremony was attended by Secretary Industries and Production Saif Anjum, Joint Secretary Freedoon Akram Sheikh, government officials, representatives of StarCharge, StarCharge Energy Pakistan, Bahum Global Ltd, members of the business community, and other distinguished guests.
