Elon Musk’s satellite internet venture Starlink, operated by SpaceX, has officially launched its services in Bangladesh, marking a major leap in the country’s digital connectivity landscape.
The announcement was made via Starlink’s official X (formerly Twitter) account, confirming that the high-speed, low-latency internet service is now operational across Bangladesh.
“Starlink’s high-speed, low-latency internet is now available in Bangladesh!” the company stated in its post, highlighting the service’s unlimited data offering and speeds of up to 300 Mbps. This development positions Bangladesh among a growing list of countries gaining access to next-generation satellite broadband, which aims to bridge the digital divide in underserved and remote regions.
Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser of the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications, and Information Technology, also confirmed the launch through a social media post. He welcomed the arrival of Starlink in Bangladesh, noting that despite its higher cost, the service provides a reliable, high-performance internet option for those who require uninterrupted connectivity.
Taiyeb emphasized that Starlink’s presence is especially crucial in areas where traditional fiber-optic or fast broadband services are still unavailable. He pointed out that the service opens up significant opportunities for the country’s growing freelance workforce, NGOs operating in remote areas, and digital entrepreneurs seeking consistent high-speed internet throughout the year.
The entry of Starlink into the Bangladeshi market is expected to drive competition in the telecom and broadband sectors, potentially encouraging improvements in infrastructure and service delivery. Industry experts believe that Starlink’s cutting-edge satellite network will complement the government’s digital transformation goals by expanding access in rural and underserved regions.
As Bangladesh continues to invest in its digital economy, the arrival of Starlink is seen as a game-changer for improving connectivity, fostering innovation, and enabling inclusive internet access for all segments of the population.
The launch of Starlink in Bangladesh is expected to play a pivotal role in accelerating digital inclusion, education, healthcare access, and rural development through enhanced connectivity.
