SUPARCO Briefs Media on Solar Storm and Space Assets

The Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) recently organized a specialized briefing session at their Satellite Ground Station and Satellite Control Facility, exclusively for media personnel.

This session provided an in-depth overview of how Pakistan’s space assets are managed from the ground and highlighted the critical benefits of remote sensing and communication satellites in driving the socio-economic development of the country.

During the briefing, the media was informed about the pivotal role satellites play in various sectors, including disaster management, crop monitoring, weather forecasting, and telecommunications. The session emphasized how these technologies contribute to the country’s progress and the well-being of its citizens.

Director SUPARCO, Ayyaz Ameen, led the session and provided detailed information about the current solar storm affecting the Earth. He explained how such space weather events are monitored and their potential impact on communication systems and other satellite-based services.

As part of the briefing, the media was given a tour of the Institute of Space Technology (IST) Astronomical Observatory in Islamabad, a facility supported by SUPARCO that marks a significant advancement in Pakistan’s astronomical research.

The observatory is equipped with the largest astronomical and solar telescopes in the public sector, offering extensive resources for faculty, researchers, and students to study the cosmos.

Dr. Najam Abbas, Director of the National Center for GIS and Space Application, provided insights into the functionality of the observatory’s telescopes.

He highlighted how these advanced instruments are used to observe the Sun’s surface and other celestial phenomena, providing valuable data for ongoing research and educational purposes.

This media briefing not only showcased Pakistan’s capabilities in space technology but also underscored SUPARCO’s commitment to advancing space research and its applications in various fields.

The session served as a testament to the significant strides Pakistan is making in space exploration and technology, contributing to global scientific efforts while addressing national needs.
