KARACHI: Sindh Revenue Board (SRB) has suspended the sales tax registration of Wateen Telecom Limited for failure to deposit the tax to the provincial kitty.
In a notice for suspension of registration of Wateen Telecom Limited on Monday, the SRB said that scrutiny of tax profile of the company revealed that it had failed to deposit Sindh sales tax for the tax period August 2019 and late deposited the Sindh Sales Tax for the tax periods June 2019 and July 2019.
“Non-payment of Sindh Sales Tax within the time and manner prescribed under the law is contravention of provisions of Sindh Sales Tax on Services Act, 2011 and the rules made thereunder.”
The SRB said that the record available including the input tax claimed by recipients of services shows that the taxpayer has charged and collected the Sindh sales tax amount, however, failed to deposit the same into the Sindh government head of account.
The SRB further said that the taxpayer was previously suspended through notices dated March 16, 2018, May 16, 2018 and June 20, 2019 for non-filing and non-payment of Sindh sales tax for the tax periods January 2018, February 2018, April 2018 and May 2019, however, the taxpayer paid no heed to the compliance of the provisions of the Act and the rules made thereunder and continued to late deposit the tax amount.
The SRB said that the sales tax registration of Wateen Telecom Limited is hereby suspended with immediate effect.
However, the suspension of the taxpayer may be revoked if the taxpayer takes remedial actions including discharging all sales tax liability.
In case of non-satisfactory response or failure to take remedial measures as suggested above on or before September 30, 2019, the case would be further proceeded for cancellation of the registration with the SRB.
