Thundershower Expected in Multiple Regions – Islamabad Weather Report – July 22, 2023

Thundershowers are likely to occur in multiple regions of the country today, July 22, 2023. Monsoon currents from the Bay of Bengal and a westerly trough affecting the upper regions will contribute to the weather conditions.

Forecast:

Rain-wind/thundershowers are expected in the following areas: Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Islamabad, Pothohar region (including Punjab), northeast and south Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Sindh.

Heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places in the following regions during the forecast period: Kashmir, northeast Punjab, Pothohar region, Islamabad, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, northeast and south Baluchistan, and Sindh.

Potential Hazards:

Heavy rainfall may lead to urban flooding in low-lying areas of Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Gujranwala, and Lahore from July 22nd to July 26th.

Landslides are possible in vulnerable areas of Murree, Galliyat, Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan, and hilly regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during the period.

Flash flooding might occur in certain regions, including Kashmir, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Shangla, Buner, Manshera, Abbottabad, and Rawalpindi/Islamabad between July 22nd and July 26th.

Hill torrents could affect Dera Ghazi Khan and adjoining areas of northeast Balochistan on July 22nd and 23rd.

Water logging may occur in low-lying areas of Karachi and Hyderabad from July 22nd to July 24th.

Synoptic Situation:

Monsoon currents from the Bay of Bengal continue to penetrate the country, and a westerly trough is affecting the upper parts of the country, which is expected to persist for the next few days.

Past 24-Hour Weather:

In the past 24 hours, rain, wind, and thundershowers, along with heavy rainfall in some places, were observed in various regions of the country. Significant rainfall was recorded in multiple cities, with Mandi Bahauddin and Chakwal in Punjab experiencing heavyfalls of 94mm and 93mm, respectively. In Sindh, Badin received 56mm of rainfall. Balakot in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa received 50mm of rainfall, and Muzaffarabad in Kashmir recorded 36mm in the city and 30mm at the airport. Dalbandin and Nokkundi recorded the highest maximum temperatures at 44°C.
