Thundershower Forecasted for Potohar Region on August 22

Islamabad, August 21, 2023 – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a weather forecast indicating the possibility of thundershower in the Potohar Region on August 22, 2023.

The Met Office’s update also provides information about the current weather conditions and synoptic situation.

Weather Forecast: While most plain areas of the country are expected to experience primarily hot and very humid weather, isolated areas in several regions may witness rain, wind, and thundershowers. These regions include the Potohar Region, North-East Punjab, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit Baltistan, Kashmir, and nearby hilly areas.

Synoptic Situation: According to the Met Office, a weak westerly wave is currently present over the northern parts of Pakistan, which is contributing to the likelihood of thundershowers in the mentioned areas.

Past 24-Hour Weather: In the past 24 hours, the prevailing weather conditions were characterized by hot and humid weather across most of the country. However, there were instances of rainfall, with Kotli in Kashmir receiving 12mm of rain, and Khanpur in Punjab receiving 3mm.

Recorded Highest Maximum Temperatures: The highest recorded maximum temperatures (°C) for today were noted in several cities, including Bannu, Chilas, Dadu, Dalbandin, Khairpur, Larkana, Nokkundi, and Noorpur Thal, all reaching 43°C.

As the Potohar Region and other specified areas brace for the possibility of thundershowers on August 22, residents and authorities are encouraged to stay informed about local weather updates and take necessary precautions to ensure safety and preparedness.
