Islamabad, December 13, 2023 – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a weather alert forecasting a thunderstorm in the coastal city of Gwadar on Thursday, December 14, 2023.

The announcement comes as part of the daily weather forecast, which indicates varying weather conditions across different regions of the country.

According to the PMD, most plain areas of Pakistan are expected to experience mainly cold and dry weather, with the western districts anticipated to witness partly cloudy conditions. However, a notable shift is predicted for northwestern districts of Balochistan, where cloudy weather is expected, accompanied by the possibility of rain-thunderstorm occurrences in Gwadar, Chaghi, Turbat, and the surrounding areas during the specified period.

The forecast also highlights the persistence of fog and smog in upper Sindh, plain areas of Punjab, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during both morning and night hours. Additionally, dense fog is expected to prevail in a few plain areas of Punjab.

Looking back at the weather conditions on Wednesday, December 13, 2023, most plain areas of the country experienced cold and dry weather, with the northern districts facing very cold and partly cloudy conditions. The challenge of fog and smog remained, particularly in upper Sindh, plain areas of Punjab, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with dense fog affecting specific plain areas of Punjab during this period.

Explaining the synoptic situation, the PMD emphasized that continental air currently prevails over most parts of the country. However, a westerly wave is anticipated to affect the western parts of Balochistan on Thursday, potentially contributing to the predicted thunderstorm in Gwadar and nearby regions.

Reviewing the weather patterns of the past 24 hours, the PMD reported that cold and dry weather dominated most parts of the country, with the northern areas experiencing very cold conditions. Recorded lowest minimum temperatures during this period included Leh at -12°C, Skardu at -07°C, Gupis, Kalam, Kalat, and Srinagar at -05°C, while Dir and Quetta recorded temperatures of -03°C.

Residents and authorities in Gwadar and the surrounding areas are advised to take precautionary measures in light of the predicted thunderstorm. The PMD recommends staying updated with the latest weather advisories and adhering to safety guidelines to minimize potential risks associated with adverse weather conditions.

As the nation prepares for varying weather patterns, the PMD remains vigilant in monitoring and providing timely updates to ensure the safety and well-being of the public.
