TikTok Ban Leads Meta to Launch Edits Video App

TikTok Ban Leads Meta to Launch Edits Video App

TikTok was not the only ByteDance app facing a ban in the US. CapCut, ByteDance’s popular video editing app, also went dark.

Seizing the opportunity, Meta swiftly announced its own video editing app for creators, named Edits, which promises to rival CapCut with a range of advanced features.

The Edits app is currently available for pre-order in the US App Store and is expected to launch next month. Adam Mosseri, the head of Instagram, has confirmed that an Android version is in the works and will be released soon.

Edits aims to provide creators with a comprehensive platform to capture, edit, and share vertical-style videos. These videos can be posted on any platform, but users who upload directly to Instagram will benefit from live video performance insights, such as viewer engagement metrics, thanks to its integration with Instagram Reels.

The app includes a variety of tools designed to inspire and enhance creativity. A dedicated “Inspiration” tab offers ideas and examples for creators. Standard editing features such as green screen effects, video overlays, caption generation, and voiceovers are also included. Additionally, the app incorporates an AI animation feature, enabling users to bring still images to life.

Beyond editing capabilities, Edits provides advanced camera settings, including options for resolution, framerate, dynamic range, flash, and zoom. These tools aim to offer professional-quality video creation directly from mobile devices.

Another notable feature is the collaboration tool, allowing creators to work together on projects and share video drafts seamlessly.

With the launch of Edits, Meta appears poised to capitalize on the gap left by CapCut’s absence, offering creators a new platform that combines ease of use with powerful tools.

As the app’s release approaches, it remains to be seen how it will perform in a competitive market dominated by TikTok and other video-editing solutions. Still, Meta’s integration of Instagram Reels analytics and AI-driven features may give Edits a unique edge.
